ELA/Reading Update

My apologies for not posting sooner this week.  It has been a crazy few weeks.  Our Valentine's Day party will be next Friday at 1:30.  Letters about the party went home last Friday.  The students will also have an opportunity to hand out Valentine's Day cards.  Please make sure everyone in our homeroom gets one if your child plans on handing them out.  If they want to hand Valentine cards to other students in different homerooms that is fine too.  I will send home a list of students in our homeroom this week in Friday Folders.

Reading:  We have begun our read aloud, Counting on Grace.  This is a great story about the Child Labor Laws in America in the early part of the 1900's.  This will also help students preview content taught in Social Studies.  We will be reviewing theme, character traits, and others skills that have already been taught this school year.  Students will also be given constructed response questions that they will have to answer.  This will help prepare them for the Milestone test that begins in April.

ELA:  We will continue to work on constructed and extended responses.

Milestone Testing Dates:  Please mark your calendars!!  Here are the 5th Grade Testing dates for the Milestone.  It is imperative that your child be here and on time each day of testing. Remember ALL testing will be done on the computer.  Make sure your child is practicing their keyboarding skills at home.

  • Thursday, April 23:  Reading/ELA Section 1 and 2
  • Friday, April 24:  Reading/ELA Section 3 (this is the 90 minutue writing section)
  • Monday, April 27:  Math
  • Tuesday, April 28:  Science
  • Wednesday, April 29:  Social Studies
As always, if you have any questions please let me know.  Have a great week!

Mrs. Kimbell
