ELA and Reading for November 3-7

Greetings!
Please remember the annual OCES Thanksgiving Feast is set for Friday, November 14th.  Kimbell's homeroom will eat at 11:30.  Make sure you RSVP to the cafeteria so they can have enough food prepared.

Reading:  We will continue working with point of view.  The students will continue to learn the differences between 1st person, 3rd person: limited, 3rd person: objective, and 3rd person omniscient. We will take a SUMMATIVE test on point of view on Thursday, November 13th.

ELA:  We are beginning our informational writing unit.  On Wednesday, students got a letter to take home explaining the expectations and due dates for this upcoming project.  Please make sure you ask your child about their historical figure they have chosen.

Here is a timeline for this project.  This should make it easier for the students to set goals at home so the assignment isn't left until the night before!
  • November 5th: Students will pick their topic
  •  November 6th:  Students will begin researching in library
  • November 10th: Continue research
  • November 12th: Continue research
  • November 16-21:  Write informational writing piece
  • December 1-5:  Finish writing piece and brochure
  • December 8th: Dress/Props need to be at school for dress rehearsal
  •  December 10th:  Wax Museum Day
I think the students will enjoy this project.  It will cover our informational writing and speaking and listening standards for this nine weeks.  I am not going to introduce any new roots until after Thanksgiving.  I know the students will have a lot on their plate with this project and want them to focus on these standards for a while. Please let me know if you have questions.  Have a great week!
