ELA and Reading Assignments for the Week of August 11-15th

I've been enjoying getting to know each and every student this past week.  Thank you for getting the extra supplies.  It was much appreciated!

ELA:  We are just getting started on our mentor sentences. We will usually have a quiz each Friday based on what we have discussed/learned throughout the week.  This week we will quiz over nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  This should be a review for all students.

Reading:  We are off to a great start in reading.  On Tuesday, we went to the library and began checking out books.  Most students have made their AR reading goals for the nine weeks.  We have also began our root (word) study.  Each 7 days we will learn new roots.  This time around it is the root(s): a, ab, and abs.  Students were given 10 words that they must be able to spell correctly AND know what they mean.  They have these words and their meaning in their reading journal.  Here is a list of the words:

  1. avert
  2. abrupt
  3. absorbent
  4. aborigine
  5. abnormal
  6. abduct
  7. abrasive
  8. absent
  9. abstain
  10. abolish
They were also given 5 No Excuse Words.  They have been told that after we test on these 5 words they must be spelled correctly in all work turned in.  These words are:
  1. student
  2. teacher
  3. summer
  4. today
  5. because
If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call me.  Have a great week!
